"Bird Square" When Ecology and Color Meet

"Bird Square" When Ecology and Color Meet
Publish Date: 9/17/2017
As part of this beautiful project, which was completed this week (Sunday 10/09) 100 bird houses were hung on a tree in the traffic square next to 'Yachdav' school. Through this environmental, educational and artistic project it will raise awareness and natural heritage values, attracting birds to an urban environment, and of course, brings color and interest to the square. This is a joint initiative of the Be'er-Sheva municipality and the city's Arts Center.

The project is the latest of artistic projects that are in public spaces and join other projects like the painting exhibition "Old City Walls" and the "Sipurey Badim" project in the Old City of Be'er-Sheva. Nesting boxes placed at a height of about 2.5 meters and above have been prepared especially for Sparrows and the Great Tit (a small songbird common in Israel and Europe). They feed on insects and reptiles and therefore are used as a biological exterminator, are healthy and beneficial to residents and trees in the city.

Tzipi Zohar, director of the Center for the Arts in Be'er-Sheva related: "By far the most important initiative will create a thriving bird colony that is active in the city center next to a unique and colorful tree in the square."
