The eve of Holocaust Memorial Day was on the 11th of April, and a ceremony was held at the Be'er Sheva Performing Arts Center.
During the ceremony, which was hosted by Dan Kinnar, the mayor spoke. Holocaust survivors in attendance then lit candles in memory of the victims. This year the candles were lit by Ilana and Shmuel Okman, Avraham Enoch, Berta Bismuth, Hanna and Michael Winter, Yechiel Neisberg and Valerie Sheinman.
At the end of the lighting of the candles, a chapter of Tehillim, Kaddish and El Maleh Rachamim was recited. The high school students of Makif Gimel performed, "HaKfilim" - the story of Oded Chai (RIP) in Eretz Yisrael and Yosef Soroka in Krakow, from the time of the Holocaust until the establishment of the state.
The event was attended by many public figures, Holocaust survivors, and many additional participants. In the lobby of the Performing Arts Center, the exhibition "With Words and With a Brush" was presented by Holocaust survivors, members of the "Amcha" organization, and members of the elderly community.
On Thursday, the 12th of April, a memorial ceremony was held in the courtyard of Yad Labanim, near the monument to the Holocaust survivors. The ceremony was implemented by students of Makif Alef high school. The ceremony featured the story of "In the Shadow of Truth".
